Meet miracle Leicester baby who weighed just 1lb 4oz when he was born
The delighted parents of premature baby Austin Douglas have taken him home at last.
Austin weighed only 1lb 4oz when he was born just over 22 weeks early on March 31.
He was so premature that doctors warned his parents, Helen and Rhys Douglas, he was unlikely to survive.
They were so concerned they asked the couple if they wanted him to have medical assistance when he was born.
Helen said: “I told doctors that if he came out breathing I wanted them to do everything they could.
“He has been fighting ever since.”
Austin spent the first seven weeks of his life at the Birmingham Heartlands Hospital because there were no specialist neo natal cots available at Leicester Royal Infirmary.
The weeks since his birth have been a rollercoaster of emotions for his parents as their son overcame two lung infections.
Austin has stunned doctors by fighting all the way and getting stronger every day.
He now weighs around 6lbs 11oz and doctors said…
