Meet E’Layah Faith Pegues, the smallest baby ever born at The Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, and one of the smallest surviving premature babies in the world.
Weighing just 10 ounces when she was born on September 23, 2015, E’Layah was delivered three-and-a-half months before her mother’s due date, according to ABC News, who reported on the story.
At the start of 2016, E’Layah had grown to five times her birth weight and was not only surviving, but thriving. She’s come a long way these past few months, after relying on a ventilator to breathe, undergoing several blood transfusions and experiencing a number of complications with her undeveloped organs.
Her parents told ABC News “every precious moment spent with our daughter has made everything worth it.”
E’Layah is expected to develop normally and is set to be released home to her family any day now.
